SPF, which means Sender Policy Framework, is an email security system, that is employed to validate whether an email message is sent by an authorized server. Employing SPF protection for a domain name will stop the forging of email addresses made with the domain. In simple words: enabling this function for a domain name makes a special record in the Domain Name System (DNS) which contains the IP addresses of the servers that are allowed to send e-mails from mail boxes using the domain. When this record propagates globally, it will exist on all the DNS servers that route the Internet traffic. Any time an e-mail message is sent, the initial DNS server it goes through verifies whether it originates from an accredited server. When it does, it is forwarded to the destination address, but if it does not originate from a server part of the SPF record for the domain, it's rejected. In this way nobody can mask an e-mail address then make it look as if you're e-mailing spam. This technique is also called email spoofing.

SPF Protection in Hosting

If you host your domains in a hosting account with us and we manage the e-mails for them, you will be able to activate SPF protection for any of them with a couple of clicks in your Hepsia Control Panel. The service is accessible in a section of its own where you are able to see which domains are already secured. For the ones which aren't, you can enable the SPF protection option and configure various things in the process - the hostnames of the mail servers that are permitted to send messages from your e-mail addresses, the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of these servers, and even to create a rule that messages can be sent only if your domain names use our MX records. The last choice is the most secure one, but you can use it if we take care of the emails for your domains and you're not using a different e-mail provider. The new records will propagate within one day and nobody will be able to forge the FROM field in an e-mail by using your addresses.

SPF Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you host your domains in a semi-dedicated server account from us, you'll be able to employ the SPF protection feature as part of the regular set of services that you will have with this type of web hosting. Starting the protection will require just several easy steps within the Hepsia Control Panel, so even when you've never employed such a feature before, you will not have any kind of problems. Through a very easy to work with interface, you'll only have to type in the info of the mail server which will be certified to send out messages from your email addresses - its hostname (mail.server.com) and IP address (IPv4 or IPv6). As soon as the newly created record propagates, no one will be able to counterfeit any e-mail address for that particular domain and send out emails from a server other than the one you have typed in. This doesn't specifically have to be our mail server, but if we manage your e-mails, you can enable an extra level of protection by picking an option that emails can be send out from addresses @your-domain.com only in case the domain uses our MX records. Our technical support staff can assist you 24/7 if you have any questions related to this service.
